"The Lie."
About 91% of the people in the world lie everyday and every person lies about 13 major  lies a week! This story “The Lie” By Kurt is about a boy who lies just like you and me would. When Eli lies about getting into the school his family has been going to for generations, it creates family problems. This short story follows the comedic mode of literature with all of its ups and downs of  Eli's life. This story has a lot of life lessons that many people can relate to.

To begin with, this short story starts out with everyday normal life, just relaxing. In the comedic mode of literature it starts out with everyday normal life. Next in the comedy mode of literature is mild conflict occurs, in the lie it is when he takes the test and fails and doesn’t tell his family, and rips it up. The next point in the comedy mode of literature is conflict is realized, just like when his family finds out that he didn’t get in and he gets sad and a little disappointed. Next is conflict is figured out when  Eli cant get into the school so they just let it go. At the end of the mode of literature its back to everyday normal life, and that is how it is in the story.

I think that even though this follows the comedy mode of literature doesn’t mean it is funny because it isn’t funny. Lying is not funny. And I think that the life lesson in this story is that lying gets you nowhere. Also I think it is saying that sometimes it can get you in more trouble. Just like when Eli lied about getting in to the school all it did nothing but make the people that loved him sad, and a little disappointed.

This story reminds me of the one time I lied to my mom about a test score. When she found out that I lied I got in trouble. And when she called the school to see if I could make it up they said no. Later I told my mom I would never do it again because lying is wrong and it does nothing but get you in trouble and makes you feel guilty.

After reading this story I know that it is defiantly wrong to lie no matter what. This was a good story because it was a good life lesson. This story also fits the comedy mode of literature very well. Even though there are conflicts it is still a Great  story!

"District Assessment."
If you have a job that you like to do then you should be good at it. Just like in this story of Magic and the Night River by Eve Bunting it shows how Kano and Yoshi’s grandpa love their job and when something bad happened they are happy it happened. This is the reason I think that it follows the Romance mode of literature.
In the beginning of the book right away there is a mild conflict with the main characters, Kano the person letting Yoshi and his grandpa use his boat is trying to beat them in a race to see who can get the most fish. Kano isn’t a nice person because he thinks that since they use his boat he thinks that he gets half of the fish they catch if not more. Then another mild conflict happened when they are fishing and another boat bumps into them and their birds get tangled up. When Yoshi sees that some birds are getting hurt or are hurt he feels sad and lets go of the strings so they can fly away and not be hurt. Yoshi’s grandpa is sad when he finds out that he has lost and doesn’t have any of the birds that he has grew close to for many years. After mild conflict there lead bird, Itchi-ban comes back with fish in his mouth his grandpa gets happy. After Itchi-ban comes back more and more of the bird are coming back to him with fish in their mouths. And to them this is a new beginning because the birds want to help them and not forced to. Also Kano doesn’t want any of there fish and I think they are going to be friends and this is a new beginning for them also.
This story is good for someone who likes to read stories with a lot of conflict, and the romance mode of literature has a lot of conflict. So that is why I think it follows the Romance mode of literature.
